Blocked Drains Bristol – We'll Clear It Today
A blocked drain is one of those problems that gets worse the longer you leave it. What starts as a slowly emptying sink can turn into a backed-up toilet, a flooded kitchen or a garden gully overflowing onto your path. We’ve seen it all, and the difference between a quick £X fix and a much bigger job is almost always how fast someone calls.
Flow Sure Drains cover all of Bristol and the surrounding area. We carry high-pressure jetting equipment and a CCTV camera on every van so we can deal with whatever we find — not just poke a rod down and hope for the best.

Great Job by them, I had a slow draining kitchen sink, that refused to be fixed by me. I called Flow Sure Drains, and it looked like it was going to defeat him as well, but Tony refused to give up and with some detective work figured out the issue, despite me giving him incorrect information, given to me by a company I paid 5 years ago to survey my drain system, on which inspection cover was Surface water and which was foul water. Turns out both were foul water! So thank you for giving upPosted on Google Russell JonesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fantastic service. Signs You've Got a Blocked Drain
You don’t always get an obvious sign like a toilet overflowing. Blockages build up gradually, and the early warnings are easy to miss:
- Water draining more slowly than usual from sinks, baths or showers
- A gurgling or bubbling sound from plughole or toilet after flushing
- Unpleasant smells coming up through drains — often a sign of trapped organic waste
- Water rising in one fixture when you use another (e.g. sink fills when the washing machine drains)
- Damp patches near the base of a downpipe or in the garden close to a drain run
- An outdoor drain that's visibly sitting full of water rather than clearing
If more than one fixture is affected at the same time, the blockage is almost certainly in the main stack or the shared drain run outside — not just in one pipe. That’s a more urgent problem and needs sorting the same day.
What We Use to Clear Blocked Drains in Bristol
High-Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ)
This is our go-to for most blockages, particularly anything involving grease, fat, or built-up scale. We run water through a specialist nozzle at high pressure, which cuts through the blockage and flushes it away completely — not just pokes a hole through it. After jetting, the pipe is clean to full bore, not just open enough to drain.
CCTV Drain Inspection
If the blockage keeps coming back, or we want to be sure the pipe is clear and undamaged, we send a camera down. It takes a few minutes and gives us a live picture of exactly what’s inside your drain. We record the footage so you can see it too — no guesswork, no unnecessary work.
Root Cutting and Descaling
Tree roots finding their way into clay-jointed pipes is one of the most common causes of repeat blockages in older Bristol properties, particularly in areas like Clifton, Redland and Bishopston where there’s mature tree cover. We use mechanical cutters to clear the root mass and will advise if the joint needs patching or lining to prevent regrowth.
What Causes Blocked Drains in Bristol Homes?
Grease and Fat
Cooking fat poured down the kitchen sink solidifies as it cools and coats the inside of the pipe. Over time this builds into a serious blockage, especially in older narrower pipes. It’s one of the most common causes of blocked kitchen drains and is something we deal with daily in Bristol’s terraced and semi-detached properties.
Wet Wipes and Sanitary Products
Even wipes labelled ‘flushable’ don’t break down quickly enough in the drainage system. They catch on any rough edge or slight restriction in the pipe and build into a solid mass. We see this weekly in both domestic and HMO properties.
Tree Roots
Bristol is a green city — which means a lot of mature tree root systems working their way towards water. Clay-jointed pipes, common in properties built before the 1970s, are particularly vulnerable. Roots enter through the joint gaps and grow inside the pipe, eventually causing partial or full blockage.
Collapsed or Displaced Pipework
Ground movement, poor installation or simply age can cause pipes to crack, collapse or lose their alignment at a joint. When this happens, water doesn’t flow freely and debris collects at the break point. This is a repair job, not just a clearance — and our CCTV camera will identify it quickly.
Scale Build-Up
Hard water areas see mineral deposits collecting on the inside of pipes over time, gradually reducing the diameter until flow is restricted. Bristol’s water is moderately hard, and this is something we encounter fairly regularly in older pipe runs.
